    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, March 15, 2016)
Around the Yule Log is a collection of eleven Christmas stories by Willis Boyd Allen, one of the most popular writers of literature for young readers in the second half of the 19th century.Boyd Allen was born in Maine in 1855. He attended Harvard University and then Boston University where he studied law. He practiced law for a short time, but he soon realized that his true calling was literature and he became a full-time writer, publishing short stories and contributing articles to various magazines and newspapers such as Century, Scribner's, the Atlantic Monthly and the North American Review. Around the Yule Log was first published in 1898 when Boyd Allen was already an established author and brought him even more success and appreciation than is previous work. What made the stories popular was the great atmosphere and the interesting characters that Willis populated his plots with. The collection includes real masterpieces such as The Shadow of Christmas Present or the longer, but moving and intriguing Through the Storm, all eleven stories revolving around events that have taken place in the Yule Tide period. The stories are great for young readers and adults as well - Boyd Allen's stories are great and entertaining for anyone.Boyd Allen wrote numerous stories about Christmas and the period before it, but he was also fascinated by exotic places and characters and he wrote stories about war and history as well. Called to the Front and Cleared for Action, a Story of the Spanish-American War of 1898 are examples of the later, while The Lion City of Africa: A Story of Adventure or Kelp: A Story of the Isles of Shoals exemplify the author's passion for special places and adventures.
