  • Treatises On the Life, Walk, and Triumph of Faith

    William Romaine

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

  • Treatises on the Life, Walk and Triumph of Faith

    William Romaine

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Sept. 16, 2017)
Excerpt from Treatises on the Life, Walk and Triumph of FaithAnd what is true of a train of argument addressed to the reason, is also true of those images and illus trations which are addressed to the fancy. Yvhat ever delight may have been felt at the original pre sentation of them, would rapidly subside were they ever and anon to be obtruded on the view. We know of nothing more exquisite than the'sensation that is felt when the light of some unexpected ana logy, or of some apt and beautiful similitude makes its first entry into the mind. And yet there is a limit to the enjoyment - nor would the attempt to ply the imagination at frequent intervals with one and the same picture be long endured. The wel come which it found from its own intrinsic loveliness, was enhanced by the charm of novelty; but when that charm is dissipated, then is it possible, that, by the mere force of repetition, the taste may decline into languor, or even into loathing. Both the rea son and the fancy of man must have variety to. Feed upon; and, wanting this, the constant reiteration of the same principles, and the constant recital of the same poetry, would indeed be grievous.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. William M. Raine

    Hardcover (1st World Publishing, Oct. 1, 2008)
Of all the remote streams of influence that pour both before and after birth into the channel of our being, what an insignificant few-and these only the more obvious-are traceable at all. We swim in a sea of environment and heredity, are tossed hither and thither by we know not what cross currents of Fate, are tugged at by a thousand eddies of which we never dream. The sum of it all makes Life, of which we know so little and guess so much, into which we dive so surely in those buoyant days before time and tide have shaken confidence in our power to snatch success and happiness from its mysterious depths.
