  • Three Men in a Boat: Not to Mention the Dog

    Jerome K Jerome, Will Jonson

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Jan. 19, 2015)
A comic masterpiece that has never been out of print since it was first published in 1889, Je-rome K. Jerome's ‘Three Men in a Boat ‘ is written in the English comic tradition with just a touch of mild satire. Martyrs to hypochondria and general seediness, J. and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them to a 'T'. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather forecasts and tins of pinapple chunks - not to mention the devastation left in the wake of J.'s small fox-terrier Monmorency. Three Men in a Boat was an instant success when it appeared in 1889, and, with its benign escapism, authorial discursions and wonderful evocation of the late-Victorian 'clerking classes', it hilariously captured the spirit of its age.Check out our other books at www.dogstailbooks.co.uk

  • De Profundis

    Oscar Wilde, Will Jonson

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Jan. 5, 2015)
Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish writer and poet who distinguished himself as a leader of London's school of Aesthetics in the late nineteenth century. He became famous for his long hair, flamboyant dress, green carnations and colorful, biting wit. His successful novels, social comedies, poetry and letters reflected his belief in the supremacy of art. In 1895, Wilde was convicted of gross indecency in a legal suit from the father of his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. He was imprisoned for two years, serving hard labor, during which time he wrote "De Profundis": a letter to Douglas discussing their relationship and the spiritual journey that Wilde had undergone in prison. The eighty page manuscript begins by examining Lord Alfred's behavior and negative influence on Wilde during their three-year relationship; the second part of the letter describes the harsh conditions of prison and the physical and emotional toll it took on the writer. He finish-es the letter with a Christian analogy of himself as a symbol of art and truth. Check out our other books at www.dogstailbooks.co.uk

  • The Picture of Dorian Gray

    Oscar Wilde, Will Jonson

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Jan. 9, 2015)
Wilde's only novel, first published in 1890, is a brilliantly designed puzzle, intended to tease conventional minds with its exploration of the myriad interrelationships between art, life, and consequence. From its provocative Preface, challenging the reader to believe in 'art for art's sake', to its sensational conclusion, the story self-consciously experiments with the notion of sin as an element of design. Yet Wilde himself underestimated the consequences of his experi-ment, and its capacity to outrage the Victorian establishment. Its words returned to haunt him in his court appearances in 1895, and he later recalled the 'note of doom' which runs like 'a purple thread' through its carefully crafted prose.
