  • VILLAGE OF DOGS

    Wendy Lewis

    eBook (Mazard, Feb. 1, 2015)
A light-hearted tale of village life as lived by the local dog population. The story centres around Patch, a serious and thoughtful small dog; the result of a holiday romance between a Bull Terrier and a King Charles Spaniel. The theme throughout is Patch's unrequited love for the beautiful Lancashire Heeler, Ankle-shredder - named by the cows she herds . She, though, is more concerned with trying to cheer up gloomy Dachdan, whose father was a Dachshund, and mother a Great Dane who would rather not be reminded of that afternoon when she fell asleep on the lawn. All dogs are able to communicate telepathically - an ability that humans have long since lost. Amongst other adventures, Patch is abducted by aliens, stars in a film, gets attacked by a werewolf, and a bear, and is responsible for the dramatic rescue of Ankle-shredder and - rather more reluctantly - his rival, Dachdan.

  • Graveyard Girl

    Wendy Lewis

Paperback (Red Deer Press, Sept. 10, 2002)
In June of 1982 a group of high school students in the town of Lee re-enact the previous summer's glitzy royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Organized by their teachers, the group receives extensive coverage in the town newspaper and the school yearbook. In this set of twelve linked short stories, each of the participants in the "Wedding of the Century" seeks out his or her own truth in the years that follow. We learn about the network of love, fear and intrigue that bind young people who shared this fairy-tale event. And we learn about the real-life demons they subsequently confront, the advantages they celebrate, the disadvantages they endure, and the temptations they face. For Tish, life is never the same after the tragic death of her best ex-friend Alex. Derek, the mock wedding's prince, ends up as a hockey star while Jewel, Diana in the mock wedding, has her own romance to play out with tougher consequences. And Naylor, who had the second-banana role of Prince Edward, meets up with an extraordinary stranger whose flight to freedom lifts Naylor from a hum-drum existence. The last word comes from the wry voice of Ginger - always the outsider - who snapped the mock royal photograph and who, years later, contemplates the lives of her one-time classmates from the vantage of the Lee town cemetery.

Paperback (Key Porter Books, June 28, 2008)
Sixteen-year-old Airin Marks is funny, bright, and has big dreams: to become a writer and learn to fly. But she also has a secret — a secret that comes with guilt, bad memories, and more than a few nightmares. Twenty-year-old Ry Truman is unorthodox, headstrong, and passionate about one thing above all others: skydiving. Like Airin, he’s got some baggage — in the form of an ex-girlfriend who’s left him with a particularly nasty parting gift. When the pair meets at the drop zone Ry has opened near Airin’s home, sparks fly... but this won’t be a simple summer romance. For one thing, neither is ready to dive headfirst into a relationship. For another, Airin’s overprotective stepfather has a thing or two to say about her new obsession. And then there’s Diego Montgomery, the strange writer who’s taken to hanging around the zone to research his next novel. Diego’s attention seems more focused on Airin than on anything else, and before long, both Ry and Airin start to wonder if Diego really is who he says he is. Told in the alternating voices of Airin and Ry, this perfect summer read builds to a devastating climax.
