  • Drolls from Shadowland

    J. H. Pearce

Paperback (Dodo Press, April 11, 2008)
Joseph Henry Pearce (1856-? ) was the author of: Drolls from Shadowland (1893), Tales of the Masque (1894), Cornish Drolls (1998), Esther Pentreath, Inconsequent Lives and Jaco Treloar. "The yoke of Poverty galled him exceedingly, and he hated his taskmistress with a most rancorous hatred. As he climbed up or down the dripping ladders, descending from sollar to sollar towards the level where he worked, he would set his teeth grimly that he might not curse aloud-an oath underground being an invitation to the Evil One-but in his heart the muffled curses were audible enough. And when he was at work in the dreary level, with the darkness lying on his shoulder like a hand, and the candles shining unsteadily through the gloom, like little evil winking eyes, he brooded so moodily over his bondage to Poverty, that he desired to break from it at any cost. "
  • The Big Red Ball

    J. R. Pearce

Paperback (Trafford on Demand Pub, July 1, 2003)
Challenging or frightening strories before going to sleep do not encourage a deep, trouble free sleep. The story is intended to calm the children and make them feel safe from the time they go to bed until they are awake and are with their parents again. The repetition of Hummmmmmmmmm on each page is meant to assist parents in bringing the child to a state of drowsiness that will induce an irresistible urge to sleep. The Big Red Ball allows them to float safely above everything while interacting with friends and visiting interesting places. Prayers and Mantras have been used throughout history to calm and reassure people, and this story is intended to do the same for small children.

  • Tales of the masque

    J H. Pearce

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Aug. 3, 2015)
Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.
