So, who do you believe when it comes down to it? Aunt Alice and her spooky magic stories or your mum, who, let's face it, has a moral obligation in these matters to tell you the truth? Having been scared out of her wits by the life-like quality of the old dilapidated boots and being mindful of any apparent disloyalty Poppy Weaver is inclined, on balance towards the former.By contrast, her two Cousins Jessica and Chloe are, at least for the time being, sceptical of their mother's fanciful stories. After all, if they really had belonged to a belligerent Irish leprechaun who had reluctantly "given them" to their grandfather all those years ago why didn't he just take them if he really did want them back? The boots have a strange ability to make their presence felt and no more so than on Poppy's tenth birthday: not only do they show up but incredibly they show up exquisitely restored, covered in the most stunning and priceless jewels. So begins the adventures of Poppy and her cousins as they discover that they are now part of the family quest to search out and find a very special treasure.Their journeys take them to exotic and dangerous places meeting people who would kill them without a second though, and yet their antics also introduce characters who would make you laugh if you ever met them.Time is everyone's enemy as is growing up and getting old. Well, not everyone's, but for the girls, they are, after all only mortal and as the saying goes "Time and tide wait for no one"This is a fully developed adventure story with humour, funny characters who contrast strikingly with the evil vicious people who's search brings them into direct conflict. The book's characters are all too real so that once began it is almost impossible to put down.
