“How do I know if God is calling me to leave my career and go into some realm of fulltime Christian ministry?” Water Walkers: From Secular Careers to Sacred Service, has thirty-nine answers to that important question Christians ask themselves at least once in their lives. In Water Walkers, Vince Clews has written an anthology that shares the stories of people who were called and answered, “Here am I, Lord. Send me”. They left careers they thought would be lifelong to make good on their answer. “This extraordinary transformation was not part of their life’s plan. But they knew they were unmistakably called.” The title, Water Walkers, and the underlying theme are drawn from the biblical account of Peter walking on water found in Matthew 14:29. This passage of scripture relates the story of the disciple heeding the call of Jesus to step out of his fishing boat and walk to him. The contemporary Peters in Water Walkers were required to step out of their personal “boat” of comfort, trusting Jesus for their subsequent journey of faith. It is that step from the boat to the water and then following God’s will that makes the people in this book water walkers. This book is a look at their remarkable journeys from the moment God called to the moment of decision. For some of those profiled in the book that time was peaceful and flowed smoothly. For others, it was an earthquake that turned their lives upside down. For all, there was no question that the call must be answered and the Lord must be served. The stories in the book are told in short, easy to read chapters. They reveal why the Head of the Fine Arts Department at a major university would leave to become a missionary. Why a Madison Avenue copywriter would become a nun. A Washington lobbyist a church planter. An engineer would decide to translate the Bible into the language of a remote Indian tribe. And why a stripper would leave the life and become a beacon of hope to those still in it. Water Walkers is Vince Clews’ first book. Previously, he wrote scripts for broadcast and non-broadcast. Prior to freelance writing he was the creator/producer of the groundbreaking public television series, Consumer Survival Kit. His writing assignments have allowed him to visit multiple countries on five of the seven continents where he has seen both a need for the message of salvation and, at the same time, the blessings of receiving it.
