  • My Wolf's Bane: Shapes of Autumn, book one

    Veronica Blade

    (Crush Publishing, Feb. 7, 2013)
"Un-freakin-believable!!" and "This is truly one of the best YA Paranormal novels that I have ever read..." — CafeOfDreamsBookReviews "I just can't say enough how much I loved this book!"— InJuliesOpinion "A fast-paced, intriguing start to the Shapes of Autumn series, My Wolf's Bane is an awesome read." — Susan Hatler, International bestselling author NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: As with any Veronica Blade book, this is a ROMANCE NOVEL, meaning it's romance FIRST and everything else is secondary. Rated PG-13 for sexual situations and mild profanity. Different species. Mortal enemies. It'll never work, but they'll die trying. Autumn Rossi thought she was a normal teenager. Suddenly, she can outrun every critter in the forest, making her wonder if she’s even human. When the new guy at school, Zack de Luca, witnesses a questionable scene, he unfairly pins her as stuck-up. He acts like he hates her, yet he keeps bailing her out of trouble. Not only is Zack both insufferable and irresistible, he seems to sniff her anytime he gets close. As passion flares between them, Autumn isn’t sure which is more dangerous: her psycho ex-boyfriend, or falling for Zack — who’s risking his life just by being near her. See the book trailer: http://youtu.be/GEXgVD1NblU EXCERPT The smell of unwashed wolf closed in on me, fur tickling my skin and fetid breath in my face. I trembled, hot tears burning my eyes. The wolf snarled and I scrambled back as he leapt toward me. “Autumn. Autumn, wake up.” Zack pulled me off the pillow by my shoulders. I lifted my head and rubbed my eyes, trying to wipe away the mental fuzz. But I was aware enough to notice my comforter wasn’t anywhere near us, certainly not separating me from him. I must have kicked it off during my nightmare. “Are you okay?” Zack was sitting directly in front of me, his thighs straddling mine, heat from his bare skin radiating through me. I nodded. He exhaled in relief and leaned back to sit on his heels. “Heard you scream and I ran up here. Been calling your name over and over, but you wouldn’t wake up. Scared me for a minute there.” I’d been having that same dream where I was being chased. “I was running from wolves.” He brushed a finger down my cheek. “It was just a dream.” “More like a nightmare,” I whispered, my gaze locking onto his. He wore nothing but a pair of boxers. As my ragged breath slowed, I realized the only other thing between us was my threadbare tank top and skimpy panties. “Autumn.” His breathing quickened and he growled so low it sounded like a purr. Then he tilted my face to meet his and drew closer until I felt his breath on my skin. “You’re too beautiful.”

Oftentimes the author used comedic wit to the scenes giving it an even more humanistic appeal to the characters."agrippinalegit.com: "I have a feeling that Hayden is going to end up with a lot of fans, and if you're the type of person who tends to fall for the bad boys with hearts of gold, you should probably brace yourself for a new literary crush before picking up Something Witchy This Way Comes!"mindingspot.blogspot.com "From teen to adult, I can't imagine anyone not absolutely adoring this book."SOMETHING WITCHY THIS WAY COMESBrainiac Tessa McClean's newly discovered magical powers give her an escape from her self-absorbed parents. When she and Hayden had a steamy scene, I felt it too. When she was getting into trouble, I was biting my nails. When she discovered truths, I gasped and even cried. It was a great emotional roller coaster..."hippiesbeautyandbooksohmy.com: "The author creates a ton of tension and suspense even though as the reader, we know what each character is thinking and feeling. It takes a very creative person to accomplish something like that."dream-wish-live.blogspot.com: "Action packed, and fast paced... Overall, a great read with intriguing characters."cafeofdreamsbookreviews.com: "Something Witchy This Way Comes is full of paranormal twists and turns, self-discoveries, courage, loyalty, trust and surprises. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every aspect of this book. Veronica Blade has an incredible talent for story telling and bringing characters to life vividly, to really allow the reader to invest themselves within both Tessa and Hayden, as well as the secondary characters."adiaryofabookaddict.blogspot.com: "This is a must read for all lovers of Paranormal books! Veronica Blade you have out done yourself!"lisaisabookworm.blogspot.com: "Veronica Blade has an easy style that swiftly carries the reader from start to finish and lovers of romance will greatly appreciate the will-they-won't-they tension between her two main characters."wovenstrands.wordpress.com: "With her breezy irreverence, remarkable self-assurance, and beguiling innocence, Tessa's voice is the one I enjoyed the most. Personally, I would have liked the entire tale to have been told from her perspective exclusively. However, Hayden's voice grew on me after a bit, and I soon relished seeing situations through his eyes, as well."

But his father, the king, commands him to attend a ball where he must choose a wife. Can he find his Cinderella before he's forced to marry another? He doesn’t even have her real name, much less a glass slipper.EXCERPTIf I’d known it could be like this and that she’d wanted it too, I would’ve kissed her ages ago. I mentally kicked myself for wasting all those weeks when we could’ve been doing this the entire time. Her hand crept up under my shirt and her fingers trailed along my back. Goosebumps danced on my skin. She pressed closer against me and I took the kiss deeper, letting loose my weeks of pent up craving for her.I didn’t think life could get any more perfect than being with Cindy. And I no longer yearned for a normal life. I wanted things to stay exactly as they were at that moment. With my Cinderella. Forever.A soft moan erupted from my throat when she angled her face to take the kiss still deeper. I slid my arms around her waist and the tips of my fingers inched up underneath her tank top. She shivered. But it wasn’t a usual shiver. Her whole body began to tremble and I nearly lost my hold on her. I pulled back. Cindy’s eyes grew huge and her pupils dilated. She threw her head back, her limbs vibrating as she growled. No, not a growl. It was more like a dull roar, full of pain and anguish. Was she… was my Cindy about to turn into a werewolf? Or was it something else? Maybe if I held her again, whatever was happening to her might stop. I lunged for her.“Get away from me!” Sobbing, she shoved me back, but in the process, one of her claws raked across my chest.I flinched, as blood beaded on my skin. A little scratch wasn’t going to stop me though. Not when Cindy needed my help. I stepped forward again. Her lips curled up, exposing long, growing teeth and she shrieked. Yeah, she’d hit werewolf maturity all right. But she hadn’t completely morphed. Just her teeth and nails. Maybe if I calmed her, she could prevent it from progressing. I wrapped my arms around her waist, as I’d done just moments ago, and pulled her close. She shrieked again, then searing pain shot through my arm.Werewolf bite. Oh, crap. My dad was going to kill me… unless the werewolf virus beat him to it. The forest spun around me and I couldn’t keep my eyelids up. My muscles went lax and when the ground rose to slam against me, I didn’t feel a thing.PRAISE FOR VERONICA BLADE'S OTHER WORK:madmoosemama.blogspot.com: “The dialogue and emotions are real and raw, there are some expletives and sexual fantasy scenes but I felt they worked with the characters and gave them more of an edge to their creation.
