Well, it might seem weird, but the Rangers—otherwise known as the Leftovers—think their new game is much cooler than regular old basketball. In fact, it’s so cool it’s called Freeze! And the only way not to get frozen is to cross something on your body while you’re playing. The new game definitely looks cooler, but the Rangers’ coach is getting cross-eyed looking at the scoreboard. Can the team defrost in time? Or will the Rangers be frozen—in last place?

The Rangers are still playing soccer—and it’s really not so bad. In fact, soccer is kind of fun. Where else can you pretend the goal is a giant spiderweb? That’s when Mrs. Antler decides she doesn’t want to coach the team anymore. She thinks Joanna’s dad will be a better coach just because he knows more about the game. But all Mr. Wrightman wants to do is win. No jokes. No fun. No nothing. The Rangers aren’t used to winning games, but they are used to having a good time. And now they have to decide which is more important: wining, losing, or having fun . . .

It was pretty bad when Catherine found out she wasn’t on the same team as her friends. And it got worse when she found out her new teammates were a bunch of “leftovers” no other team wanted. But when her mom announced she was the new coach, things went from terrible to ridiculous! It’s got to get better, right? Wrong! Because now Lucy and Matt (who are normally best friends) are fighting all the time. In fact they fight so much, the rest of the team is starting to take sides. How can you have a baseball team when no one’s speaking to one another? Catherine’s got to figure something out—fast—or the Rangers may be the first team ever to lose to itself!

After all, they were the stars of the Rangers baseball team—why shouldn’t they be just as good at soccer? But sometimes things aren’t as easy as they look. And the baseball “stars” really stink at soccer. Are the Rangers in for another losing streak? Or will they finally figure out that sometimes six heads are better than one?
