  • The Fang Gang

    Trish Kline

Paperback (Ghost Hunter Productions, Feb. 1, 2007)
The Fang Gang s home is in a church steeple. But, when it becomes too noisy to live in, the three bats set out to find another place to live. A new friend invites them to hang at his house. Soon, they discover that likes and dislikes depend on how you view something. Helping to expand vocabulary of beginning readers, this tale uses the -elf and -ang and -iss and -oard word pattern families (example: fang, gang, rang, and so on). Natural rhyming text delights read-to-me listeners. This is an Interactive Book-Webscene (IBW) title. It includes access to seven free online animations called webscenes. Animations display pop-up words in English and English-Spanish. Pop-up words identify objects, actions and abstract concepts. Also included is free access to online learning activities. Includes accompanying word-for-word, English-to-Spanish comparison text. This enables non-English speaking Spanish language parents to monitor their child s reading, even without knowing English words themselves. This sample passage from the book The Fang Gang shows how the IBW process works with webscenes: We fly in the dark. We fly in the night. We fly in the dark, the dark of night. We flap our wings. We flap our wings fast. We eat bugs as long as they last! When the sun shines, we fly on home. Home is where we like to stay. We hang around and sleep all day. Most of all, we love our fangs! Our fangs make us the Fang Gang. At the end of the passage, the reader goes online to view the webscene ka-reader.com/4-1. In this instance, the webscene animation shows the Fang Gang of bats flying through the night and before finding a church steeple to hang in. The webscene contains the pop-up words fang, and Fang Gang. The Fang Gang is rated with a Flesch-Kincaid reading level of Grade 0.6 and contains 980 words.
