A great story that was immensely popular and critically acclaimed when it was first published. In fact, as we find out from the dust jacket, McCloskey had wanted to illustrate this story every since he first read it as a young boy. His exuberant b&w drawings can be found throughout the book and make the story all that more enjoyable.

SYNOPSIS: "Pete is an Airedale whose primary job was looking after the house and being the family greeter for guests. But when the urge came to go off and do something with the gang, Pete was ready. It only takes one dog ambling along to pick up another. They zigzag here and there with others of all breeds joining in resulting with a pack of dogs on an expedition -- sometimes harmless, sometimes into mischief, often with humorous results." CONDITION: Heavy library binding with cardholder/stamps/notations inside and front flap from former dustjacket glued inside back cover. Binding is secure.
