Hello. My name is Virginia, but all my friends call me Ginny. I am not a Horse, or a Donkey, or a Mule. I am a Hinny. A Hinny is a special animal or, so I am told. You have never heard of them? Well sit back because I have a story to tell you. I was walking along one day, hoping I might find a new friend along the way. Far ahead, I saw a herd of animals. “Hello. You look kind of familiar,” I said. “Would you like to play with me?” “No, you are a Hinny,” one of them said. “Go play with your own kind.” A little saddened, I continued my walk. These animals said that I was different. I wonder why? Suddenly a Unicorn floated down and said, “Why do you look so sad, little one?” “Nobody wants to play with me because they said I’m not one of them.” I cried. “You are who you are,” the Unicorn said. “That’s what makes you special.” “Come with me. I’ll explain it to you,” the Unicorn said as we walked along. “Unicorn, please tell me who I am?” I asked. “You are a Hinny. There are very few of them in the world so that makes you special.” “It also makes you different. Some feel that different is scary,” the Unicorn said. “If someone does not want to be your friend, that will be their loss. A Hinny has a heart full of love and is waiting to give it away, but if you can’t accept that they are different, that love will go to someone else.” As they walked along, they came upon a new and different group of animals. The Unicorn winked and said, “Maybe you can find a new friend over here.” As the Unicorn flew away, you could hear Ginny say to these new animals “My name is Ginny. I am a Hinny.” she said. “Some of you look familiar to me but not others.” “It’s OK, you look like a friend to us,” a new animal said. “Would you like to play?” “Yes, that sounds like fun!” Ginny said to her brand-new friends, “Let’s Play!”
