In a forest in the far-off kingdom of Bergania, Yan meets a grotesque bird with the neck of a swan, a duck's bill, a hawk's body and a robin's red breast. The bird, Flip Flop, leads him to the underground palace of Count Lungavita, from whom he learns of the magic quill whose terrifying power had blighted the Count's life. How Yan himself takes charge of the quill and with its help finds his way into the stronghold of the Gold Mountain robbers to rescue his long-lost mother, makes an exciting tale of magic and adventure.
