  • Stolen!!: Watch out! There's a thief about!

    Susan Blackhall

    (, May 5, 2020)
A story all about stolen horses directed towards readers of eleven years old onwards. This is not so much a ‘who done it’ but more of a ‘how to catch who done it’. Set in the West Midlands in 1980, the story begins with two stolen horses being offered for sale at a horse market, and the purchase of a third horse as a birthday present for the twelve-year-old, Sarah. She and her sister, Lucy, who is a police officer in the West Midlands, become involved in the recovery of the two stolen horses. Further thefts in this crime wave, come closer to home and Sarah is dismayed to have her own pony stolen. This drags the girls unwittingly into the world of unscrupulous travellers and horse dealers where they are met with intrigue and violence.Other children at the stables have some comic interaction, with some wild pigs that are running loose. The pigs continue to cause further havoc resulting in meeting Petra, a girl on the run. Lucy’s boyfriend, Steve helps them with their quest to track all the stolen horses down. He is also a police officer, and together with a friend who travels the markets selling saddlery, they liaise with officers of the mounted branch in London, well known for their expertise in equestrian crime. Will Sarah get back her much-loved pony, Magpie? What will happen to the wild pigs, and will they be captured before someone is seriously hurt?
