Maria The One Leg Cow is the hero of every story. She is unique and very special. The book is written with four through seven year old children as its target audience. The story is meant to be read to children or to be read by children who are just learning to read. There is a moral to the story's, this one teaching the children the importance of helping others. As the children hear the story they interact with the characters and activities as the story is being read. The story is beautifully illustrated by artists Julie Polanco and Manuel Escudero. Maria is introduced at the beginning of the story, she has one leg and is special for the feats she can perform. Other characters in the story have fun names and are unique in their personalities and include a chicken wearing glasses, and a cat with no tail. Some say they have a handicap but they are happy and full of fun and always able to do whatever anyone can do. Maria comes to the rescue saving Salvador The Cat With No Tail from a dilemma he has encountered. Carlos The Chicken helps too and is able to put Salvador's maid at ease. Maria saves the day. Easily loved by all children who hear the story it ends with the children wanting more.

Maria The One Leg Cow: A Polite Story is a boldly colorful, interactive book about helping and not being rude. Children ages four to seven years will love learning from the adventures of Maria and her friends. Author Steven L. White got his ideas for this book, as well as for the rest of his series of books offering advice to young children, through volunteering at a local elementary school.
