This book is a poignant and uplifting collection of students' feedback that will be of interest to children, parents, grandparents and educators alike. The two questions below were answered by 2-5th graders at two elementary schools. Their anonymous and voluntary responses are profound and touching. Imagine how you or your child would answer the following; I feel like Nobody When... I feel like Somebody When. You can read and use this book to better understand the children in your life and help them modify and identify behavior they would like to change. The author, Stephanie Heuer, an educator in Technology, was at first broadsided at the raw collection of over 300 students' answers. She sorted through them, and found herself overwhelmed with sadness and joy at their deep implications. It propelled her to think about some of the policies in her class and school that could be modified to allow a more loving and fair environment. She changed the way she picked students when they raised their hands, or when she found out a significant person had passed in their lives. She changed the rules on the playground, taking special notice if anyone was unfairly treated or left out of a game. She changed, they changed, a change for a more compassionate and dignified atmosphere. We must recognize and nurture human dignity in our children, protect it, and persevere it. It must not be negotiated or lost. Use this exciting new book as a template, a template for change for a more understanding and accepting world !!
