    Two high school students investigate an unusually healthy plant ecosystem in an old gravel pit. The girl is an environmentalist, while the boy is a running jock. Their science class has a project restoring a part of the pit to a native ecosystem, but they individually are drawn to another part of the pit where a lone hemlock grows. Eventually working together, their findings lead them to shed light on a 45-year-old mystery.
