  • Music in his Heart

    L. Hernandez

    language (, Aug. 8, 2015)
What does the story of mental illness look like? Where does it start? Their are volumes of books published by and for the medical community on this topic but what about the families that live with it everyday? We may wish someone "good health" and a long life on special occasions such as weddings or a graduation ceremony, but what do we define as good health. Is it just being free of physical injury or anyone of the many diseases that can come upon a person without warning. What about a mental illness? What does that look like? Where does it come from? There are no "get well soon" cards for people and families plagued by mental illness. There is confusion, stigma, judgement and misinformation. In the book, "Music in his Heart" we get a first hand account, as told by his mother, of a young man's journey to recognize and cope with the onset of a mental disorder. We see the impact that this has on the family and how society deals with someone with mental disorders. "Music in his Heart" is an attempt to reach out to the many families and individuals living with mental disorders to say that "you are not alone". The author is just one person, one Mother, one advocate for a loved one with mental disorders but she knows there a many traveling down the same path. "Music in his Heart" is an encouragement to those that feel they are walking this path alone. You are NOT alone!

  • Anna

    Sara Hernandez

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, March 3, 2016)
This is about a bright, young and intelligent young lady, who had the whole world in her hands. Anna had a plan for when she graduated from high school. She would be attending a college far away, the sooner the better. Anna was determined. In fact she was very independent. She had a great head on her shoulders and was always helping others. Anna always thought of herself last. She wanted to become a school counselor. This was her calling. This is a story that Anna, herself, would have wanted to tell. This is a story that will take away the mind of the innocent and hopefully make others aware of all the sins that people have experienced - a story that might be better off not telling. But I feel that it should be told, not all of the embarrassing moments that a young mother might have chosen to deal with while taking care of her own affairs, not thinking everything out but just letting someone else take advantage of her body, her mind and her spirit in a family that has already lost so much. But, if no one has a voice then no one will be able to speak out about these issues. No one will know of some of the dangers that are out there when dealing with any child, even if that child is a young adult or an older child wrapped in a world of drugs, alcohol, sex, friends, and gangs all rolled up into one, as well as an unplanned pregnancy, we cannot forget the greed for money.
  • Jacob and his BIG Adventure—Book 1

    Sara Hernandez

eBook (Laura Shinn, Oct. 26, 2013)
My name is Sara Hernandez, this is a true story about how my son/grandson . He did not want to listen to anyone, he was mad at the world. I believed that maybe if we put it in a book it might reach others, who have been struggling with dealing with the loss of a parent. Sometimes in life when we are given a blow that turns our world around, it is hard to comprehend.Adjusting to the fact we needed each other has been a journey of trial and error. It is a blessing to be able to watch him grow up into a fine young man. When Jacob was in kindergarten, we read the story I had written to his class out loud for the very first time and there was so much laughter and snickering throughout the story that all of the students have thought it was all about them. As of today I have read it to several kindergarten classes and everyone has loved it.With the persistence of a special teacher Barbara Bean, I put it into a more interesting children’s book hoping that someone else can get a good laugh out of an imaginary child’s point of view., (a view where not listening to anyone is a prerogative and the only rules that exist are the child’s rules). This book is dedicated to Jacob, who will find the dedication as a surprise since it includes our personal catch phrase, “There are always rules until the day you die.”
