The second of C. S. Lewis's novels to be produced in graphic novel style, The Magician's Nephew is actually the first in the Chronicles of Narnia series of seven titles. Polly and Digory meet one day over their garden wall. They decide to explore the attics above their houses one wet summer afternoon, and by mistake come across Digory's mad Uncle Andrew in the middle of an experiment. First Polly, then Digory, touch the magic rings which take them out of our world and into another one, where they encounter the evil Empress Jadis and by mistake bring her back to England. In a desperate attempt to get her away from the havoc she causes in London, the two children magic her and several others into a totally different world -- the world of Narnia.

Rock climbing used to be one of Slam Duncan's favorite things to do for fun. But one day, climbing Westridge Cliff with his scout troop, Slam loses his foothold. Luckily, his safety harness held, but that doesn't stop Slam from being terrified. Soon, he can't even manage to complete the mountain biking courses he's ridden on for years. When Slam's forced to climb down the cliff without safety gear, his friend Dozy comes up with an idea that might help Slam conquer his fear of heights. The Ridge Riders are bored to tears. So much snow has fallen on their mountain biking practice hill that they can't practice. The only bright spot is that they don't have to go to school. Luckily, Dozy has a great idea. He turns an old skateboard and a pair of sneakers into a snowboard. Before long, everyone is snowboarding. But when Fiona's horse takes a terrible fall on the snow, Slam needs to ride through the ice to find the veterinarian. Will he make it, or is Fiona's horse doomed?

Slam Duncan's old foes, Stick and Spanner, are at it again. They're mad that Slam got them in trouble at school, and they decided to get back at him by helping his arch rival, "Punk" Tuer. They go so far as to steal his sweet new shocks! But the Ridge Riders won't let them get away with it. They concoct a delicious - and spooky - scheme to get the shocks back.

This story is one of a series which is intended to involve even the most reluctant reader. It follows the adventures of a gang of friends brought together by their passion for mountain biking. In Block Busters, the gang find the cut and thrust of cross-country hard to handle. It's Race 4 of the Sword and Stump Challenge and they must learn to cope—fast!
