  • The Isaac Identity: A Novel of Good and Evil...and In-Between

    Robert E. Baker

    eBook (Robert E. Baker, April 7, 2016)
A respected therapist, a talented teacher of philosophy, and a brilliant college student form an unlikely alliance to bring to justice the worst kind of criminal untouched by the law. The therapist needs revenge, the professor needs to right a moral wrong, and the student needs to satiate an undeniable hunger to kill. Dr. Madeline "Maddie" Rivers earned her psych degree from a prestigious women's college, where she found a lifelong friend who does not know of Maddie's collusion in recent homicides. To Maddie’s chagrin, her friend marries a detective on the Maine State Police, who is investigating the apparent serial killings in cooperation with the FBI. The professor, suffering from fugue states, becomes one of Maddie's clients, and falls in love with her, in spite of learning of her role in the serial murders in New England. He is able to rationalize and justify that her behavior transcends accepted moral norms. Stanley Rabinowitz, one of the professor’s students, is referred to Dr. Rivers by his teacher to treat what Stanley says is his obsessive compulsive disorder. Dr. Rivers quickly determines he is not suffering from OCD alone. She identifies and understands Stanley's pain because, like him, she, too, is a survivor of child abuse. Her final diagnosis is that Stanley is a psychopath with lesser disorders and susceptible to manipulation. This could lead to her finally finding justice by the assassination known pedophiles…through a willing instrument under her control.
