Hugh Storey is a smart kid from colonial Massachusetts. So what's he doing in the dark hold of a pirate ship passing out rusty cannon balls and linen powder bags for Nightwing's guns? Seems he overheard Governor Blore in a nighttime talk with two pirates. The good governor has a well-paying sideline going, selling cannon shot and gunpowder to sea robbers for their fast ships. But tough luck, Hugh. Gets you knocked in the head, hustled off to Nightwing, and a chance to pass out nine-pound cannon balls as Captain Hood and his crew chase a Spanish treasure ship. Then there's another treasure to deal with, Captain Hood's secret money chest. Won't be easy to get to. It's hidden on Skull Island, in a cave above the sea. Flesh-eating land crabs guard the strong box. Oh, and something else. Hood neglected to mention a hidden booby-trap. Anyone messing with his precious loot will get an unexpected - and very nasty - surprise. One thing more, Hugh. Never trust a pirate.
