Though more than thirty years her senior, Gabe, a handsome corporate finance attorney, seems like the perfect candidate, and within a month, they are madly in love. At least, Nat is…Gabe already has a family, whom he has no intention of leaving. So when he abruptly ends things, Nat can’t let go. But Gabe’s not about to let his sugar baby destroy his perfect life. Original and thought-provoking Sci-Fi'A story that makes us challenge humanity and time travel'Evelyn is a 'Shifty' - Identified as a potential candidate as a child in an AI orphanage, and later selected for specialist immersive training by a secretive organisation. The purpose: a five-year secondment in time! Partnered with a new ally who's life she just saved, and pursued by a psychopathic assassin named Krasken, she sets out to uncover the real agenda of her superiors.A place in the future's history might be the last thing she wanted - it might also be inescapable!LoveReading review on DOWNTIME SHIFT 'Downtime Shift is an intriguing, complex and chilling work of science fiction by Robert Holding. Set in the twenty-first and twenty-ninth centuries, it paints a frightening picture of a future in which mankind is totally controlled by artificial intelligence.Evelyn, the main character, is a 'Shifty', that is someone who has been trained to survive and carry out tasks for the 'EYE' when travelling 800 years into the planet's past to alter its future for the better. Questioning these tasks, Evelyn returns to her own time to find that many of the remaining population want to take back control of their lives but that the 'EYE' also has more forces under her control than had been reckoned with. This is a very challenging read on many levels and so plausible in general that it is truly terrifying. The characters are well-defined and the plot fast-paced. The author does leave us with a light at the end of a horrendously turbulent tunnel. I would certainly recommend this book, especially to anyone feeling disillusioned with the way modern life seems to be heading.'Drena Irish, A LoveReading AmbassadorContains occasional language and occasional moderate violence that may be unsuitable for younger readers.

  • My Parents Are Sex Maniacs... A high school horror story

    Robyn Harding

    eBook (, Nov. 19, 2013)
Louise Harrison is a perfectly average sixteen-year-old girl: insecure about her hair, her lack of fashion sense, and the “big-boned” build she inherited from a large uncle on her mother’s side. But Louise has a secret weapon that keeps her from being a freakishly tall geek with an extremely uncool membership in the stagecraft club. Her name is Sienna Marshall. Sienna is pretty, petite, and has a posse of lookalike friends who spend their free time shopping, flat-ironing their hair, and making out with the interchangeable popular guys. Louise has other interests (like the decidedly unhip stagecraft club), and the popular guys are not her type (the feeling appears to be mutual), but she’s thankful to be part of Sienna’s clique. She gets to sit at the popular table in the cafeteria, attend A-list parties, and eventually, some of their worldly ways are bound to rub off on her.But when Louise’s brother catches their dad fooling around with Sienna’s mom, all hell breaks loose! In a flash, Louise loses her best friend and is completely ostracized by the cool crowd. While school has become a nightmare, at least she has her afterschool job and her gorgeous co-worker, Russell to distract her. When things go disastrously awry on that front too, Louise thinks life can’t get any worse. Oh, wait! Her mom has just made an announcement guaranteed to be the final nail in the coffin of Louis’s social life!Louise’s sex maniac parents are ruining eleventh grade for her! But she just might find the inner strength to redefine her high school experience, and maybe even enjoy it – on her own terms. Funny and touching, My Parents Are Sex Maniacs tells an authentic story of one girl trying to find herself, when the world around her has gone insane.
