The year was 2011 and the city was Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia, which is located in the south-east of the state was experiencing a rare weather event, the second largest deluge since rainfall records had been kept all thanks to an intense tropical low which had settled over south-east Queensland and the Brisbane River was in flood. Through out the day (11th January 2011) torrential rain was falling and the river level continued to rise and had begun to flood adjacent low-lying properties. At the height of the downpour, just before midnight they were listening to the radio whilst waiting for the high tide, when they heard a news flash of an impending disaster that could devastate their city, without hesitation they were galvanised into action they knew instantly that they had to do something and do it now! This is my adaptation of their heroic action written in a way that I hope children can relate to and hopefully treasure.
