  • Sketches and Anecdotes of Animal Life

    J. G. Wood

Paperback (Forgotten Books, June 13, 2012)
Illustrated Natural History, it was found that the very numerous engravings consumed so much space, that the history of each animal was necessarily reduced to the smallest possible compass. In order, therefore, to compensate in some degree for that deficiency, a portion of those sketches and anecdotes which were originally intended to have been inserted in the first work, have been brought together in a separate volume. Even in these pages, which are devoted exclusively to the history of animals, space has failed; and it has been found necessary to postpone several quadrupeds, such as the elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, and many others, to another occasion. It had been intended to include, at least, the whole of the mammalia in this volume ;but its limit was unexpectedly reached before theS ketches were concluded.
