Seven stories of counselors at Camp Brightlake, a coed overnight summer camp in Washington’s Cascade Mountains. Set in the late 1990s. "The King of Brightlake." Maintenance counselor Danny is the first of his family bound for college. While he tries to cope with his father’s anger at his defection and his own doubts about where he belongs, he encounters bubbly Claire, a bi-coastal transplant also struggling with questions of identity. "Swiss Chocolate." The Fitzpatrick twins, artistic Jake and frat boy Brandon, have an acrimonious relationship. With them both at Silverlake, questions of past history and sexuality arise, resulting in rancorous altercations. "Rusty Horseshoes." Brash and popular Marisa has no patience with the more reserved Jamie until she hears him sing, which rekindles past sensations of possibility. She then wants to get closer to him, but Jamie, stung by her former dislike and jealous of her carefree confidence, offers little encouragement. "Reveille." Keith is torn between two girls. Shy, brilliant Noelle attracts him for reasons he can’t quite fathom, but brassy, uninhibited Deanna offers intimate favors that Noelle cannot give. "View from the Kids’ Table." Sixteen-year-old, unwilling counselor-in-training (CIT) Rhee is caught between a tentful of malicious, sex-obsessed fourteen-year-olds, counselors who must treat her as a camper, and a CIT-counselor so gorgeous he ruffles everyone’s feathers. "Fling." Riding counselor Felicity—who always gets what she wants—is on a mission: to have a summer fling. It’s a vital part of her summer camp-study for anthropology. Unfortunately—and inexplicably—the male counselors aren’t biting. "Pretty Boy and Mrs. Robinson." One-time counselor Phoebe flees to Brightlake after a failed engagement. Unfortunately, she becomes mired in even more emotional drama when she finds herself disturbingly attracted to counselor Trey, a young man she knew as a camper several years before.
