This book is perfect for the beginning reader who knows their alphabet letter sounds plus “ch” and “sh”. It is targeted to kindergartners, but interesting enough to engage older beginning readers as well. Many young readers have laughed out loud at this little adventure, all told with words that can be sounded out, simple sight words, and engaging illustrations. This story is actually based on a real life cat and two kid’s experience of babysitting it for one day. The sight words to be found in this book are: the, of, a, to, in, is, you, that, it, he, for, was, on, are, as, with, his, they, and, at.Many beginning reader books include words that children cannot sound out on their own, but this book focuses on simple words without compromising a good story plot. Parents should know that this story has phonetic words that are reasonable to achieve by sounding out. There are no double vowels (other than “ee”) and no words ending in “e”. The words ending in “y” follow the rules of phonetics. Finally, an adventure that’s funny each time your child reads it!
