  • Follow That Hat

    Pierre Pratt

Paperback (Annick Press, Sept. 1, 1992)
In this wonderful story, Pratt does some of his best work. The simple, slightly sardonic text relates Leon's heroic attempts to recover his favorite hat after it is whisked off his head by a gust of wind. His hat remains elusive in spite of Leon's energetic pursuit in a taxi, on his bicycle, with an express train, an ocean liner and through the Amazon rain forest. Ultimately, he does catch up to it and takes immense satisfaction tenderly placing it back on his head--until a gust of wind blows by an identical hat. The text style is set in contrast to the richly detailed, exuberant, and expressive art work. Bold colors and slightly surrealistic images depict a series of tableaus that draw the reader into the humor and beauty of Pratt's art work.

  • I See ... My Mom / I See ... My Dad

    Pierre Pratt

Board book (Annick Press, March 3, 2001)
The I See... Books by Pierre Pratt are "back-to-back" board books that convey humor through simple lines and bright, bold colors. Read one half and then flip it over for a whole new book. I See... My Mom/I See... My Dad presents Mom, and on the reverse side, Dad. Each book explores a member of the family -- literally. Whether it is the Mom's hair, ears and toes, or Dad's finger, eye or foot, the I See... Books present the body parts that a toddler sees every day. The books are narrated by a little boy, who appears on the final page of each story with the complete illustration of the family member he has been looking at. The text is clear and simple, stating the name of each body bit as it appears in vivid, fun illustrations. I See... Books are perfect for toddlers who are just learning to recognize and name the parts of the body. The I See . . . approach provides an excellent opening for interaction between the adult reader and a younger audience, encouraging further discussion and "I spy" games. If you can see Mom's tongue, where are her teeth? Also available: I See... My Sister/I See... My Cat.
