  • The Horrors: Terrifying Tales Book Two

    Peter Carver

Paperback (Red Deer Press, June 1, 2006)
Canadian Children's Book Centre Our Choice, 2007 Fourteen new spine-tingling treats for teens. In this second volume of original horror stories for teenaged readers, you'll find ghosts and werewolves, weird transformations and menacing strangers, the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end and your heart beats faster. Some of these stories explore the most traditional of horror themes - the visitation of vampires, fear of the dark corners of the basement - with a nod to that master of horror, Edgar Allen Poe. Others take readers into less familiar territory: the terror of a babysitter with a too-vivid imagination, the dangers of compulsive attention paid to a pet fighting-fish, the claustrophobia of a cruise ship where nasty plots abound, and the subtle tension between the discipline of intellect and the boisterous yearning of creativity as it is played out in the minds of teens. Some stories here come from some of our most celebrated of authors for youth - Priscilla Galloway, William Bell, Anne Laurel Carter, Kathy Stinson, Gillian Chan, Jamie Bastedo, Louise Wadsworth, Diana Aspin, Joanne Findon, Sylvia McNicoll, Wendy Lewis, Sylvo Frank, Alison Lohans and Cheryl Rainfield - some represent the work of gifted emerging writers who have also captured the essence of what makes a good suspense-filled story.

    Paperback (XLIBRIS, March 22, 2018)
Hello, my name is Peter Carlock. City Stories were born over twenty years ago when I started making them up as bedtime stories for my niece, Selina. Since then, City has had countless stories and adventures. He has met a vast number of characters and has entertained my oldest, Josh, now twelve; Eli, now seven; and continues to entertain Maya, now three. It is my hope that City and his friends Josh and Cleo will continue to entertain children of all ages at bedtime for a long time to come. I hope they will find City and his friends funny, educational, and just simply put a smile on their face. Wouldnt be nice if we all could look at our world with the awe and wonder as we once did as children? Maybe, just maybe, through Citys eyes, we can, even if just for a bit. Thank you. Sweet dreams. It was a really good day.

    (AuthorHouse, March 23, 2018)
The day Rocky became Brian’s chocolate Labrador was the first best day of his life. The second best day was when he met Molly, the cocker spaniel next door. The dog life has been a good one—chasing grasshoppers, playing tug-of-war, swimming in the lake—but Rocky also wanted to be a service dog. He wanted to be a police dog and go through the police academy. Molly, too, had her own dreams of being a show dog and competing in the dog show after her stint in beauty school. However, following their dreams meant they would have to leave each other and their childhood homes, and saying goodbye is bittersweet. Rocky’s life as a police dog is a dangerous one, but Molly’s journey to become a show dog did have its bad guys. New friends and new adventures await the two dogs, but will Rocky’s and Molly’s different dreams mean they will have to say goodbye forever? Or will fate somehow bring them back together for good? With perseverance, friendship, and fun, Rocky and Molly show what it means to dream big no matter what happens.
