  • What Do I Say If Someone Says. . .?

    Penelope Dyan

Paperback (Bellissima Publishing LLC, Oct. 6, 2010)
It is unkind when someone makes fun or you or tells you lies, because it can make you think bad things about yourself, and a person should never think bad things about themselves. So this book is all about what you do and say when someone says something that is just not right. Written and illustrated by former teacher and award winning writer and attorney Penelope Dyan, this book reminds us that we are all different, and that we are all very special. And the one thing that is the most important thing of all to remember is that we must be who we are and who we were meant to be and not pay a single bit of attention to those detractors who discourage us, and tell us lies and even say bad or mean things about us or to us. Why? Because it is our differences that make us who we are, and we are all special! Dyan reminds us to be one of a kind, to not listen when others say things to us or about us that are just not true (or that are just plain silly) and her very funny drawings and poetry remind us that like all of us, she is also one of a kind.

  • Life in the Pits

    Penelope Dyan

Paperback (Bellissima Publishing LLC, July 31, 2010)
You can learn a lot about life from a tar pit, like don't get too close or you just might fall in and get stuck and never be able to get out! Penelope Dyan was inspired by her visit to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California, because the Tar Pits spoke to her about the origins and the disappearance of so many species. Surprised at how many different species were excavated from the pits, she was reminded about the fragility of life and how we all must work together to preserve what we have. Life does not have to end up in the pits. Join Author Penelope Dyan as she tells her very special version of the story of the La Brea Tar Pits. Dyan is a former K-12 teacher and an attorney who has two of her books containing poetry (not unlike the style of this book) placed in the Saison Poetry Library, fifth floor, Royal Exhibit Hall, London, UK, chosen by the arts council for their children's poetry collection. Dyan's book of poetry, "A Book For Girls About Being A Girl" has also been placed third on the Pukeke reading list of best books of poetry for girls ages 5-9 in Australia. Since life is fragile, we must work together to preserve it. If we all walk away like the ground sloth does in this Penelope Dyan written and illustrated story, then there will be no one left to pull us out of the sticky goo. (The La Brea Tar Pits is a registered U.S.. Natural National Landmark.)

  • Why Lie? The Truth Is Easier To Remember!

    Penelope Dyan

Paperback (Bellissima Publishing LLC, April 11, 2011)
Telling a lie is wrong. It is a mystery why people think they have to lie to others. Perhaps you have told a lie, and it is bothering you because you don't know why you lied. Maybe you felt backed into a corner and didn't want to disappoint your mother and father, or your friend. But the problem with lying is once you get started, it seems you just can't stop the lies; and sometimes the lies get bigger and bigger until everything feels out of control. Penelope Dyan looks at this subject and throws in some animal facts to amuse the reader, but the bottom line is if you are yourself, and if you are being yourself, you have no need to lie about anything. Everyone needs to be happy with the person they are, and that INCLUDES YOU! Penelope Dyan is a former teacher, an attorney and an award winning author who thinks even serious subjects can be looked at with a smile, and in this book she does just that, and she also includes some mind inspiring facts about some of her favorite animals to inspire curiosity, dialog, fun, creativity and learning!

  • Fight or Flight

    Penelope Dyan

Paperback (Bellissima Publishing LLC, April 15, 2014)
We are all governed by our autonomic nervous system, and neuroscience tells us our bodies sometimes just react to situations with which we are faced. When we are faced with something that frightens us, for example, we may go into what is called a fight or flight mode; and when we are in a calmer place then we might sit and digest and just think about things. Emergencies may send us into fight or flight, while non-emergencies allow us to rest and digest. Often we do not understand why we do things, and sometimes the things we do can be explained by neuroscience. Written by award winning author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan, this 'learn to read' book is meant to keep kids thinking. Using skill based methods of word recognition, word repetition and rhyme, and filled with kid-friendly drawings, this book is a perfect fit for the core curriculum where young students are supposed to think and create. To further enhance the learning experience, there is a fun music video to go along with this book on the Bellissimavideo YouTube channel.
  • The Giving Heart

    Penelope Dyan

Paperback (Bellissima Publishing LLC, Aug. 7, 2014)
We all need to have giving hearts, but few of us really know or understand what a giving heart truly is. Read this 'learn to read' book based on and inspired by a very true story about three boys, and find out what a giving heart does and why a giving heart is also a loving heart. This faith based book uses word repetition, word recognition and rhyme, and extra large sized print perfect for little eyes, along with colorful kid-friendly illustrations to help kids have fun as they practice their reading skills. Kids can copy the words and the pictures and make their own books about what they think it means to have a giving heart, and parents and teachers can use the biblical references that open and close this book to further enhance the conversation about this very important subject. Penelope Dyan believes children are not only the future, they are also a very big part of the present. Dyan also believes children should have fun learning, because if kids don't have fun learning, they won't love to learn. With that in mind, she also created a free music video that can be found on the Bellissimavideo YouTube channel that goes along with this book for even more learning fun!
