Daltons Dream is about a twelve-year-old boy from the twenty-first century who falls asleep after reading his family history book, which shows what it was like for a twelve-year-old growing up in the early 1800s and the challenge of daily survival. In his dream, Dalton wakes up in the year of 1839 to a gunshot and finds himself sitting on a wooded snowy ground next to a stream, still holding his cell phone and wearing his red soccer uniform. He meets his ancestors and tells them what their future will be...Who they will marry, how many children they will have and we have an African American President in the twenty-first century, which was shocking to them, as slavery was being practiced. This book was inspired by Daltons family history book and was written with the hope that young adults would take a serious interest in their family history and appreciate the sacrifices their ancestors made for them. This book is also intended to give young adults a fresh awareness of how fortunate they are to live in the twenty-first century with modern conveniences and to have a better appreciation for their parents and teachers, making them realize how important getting an education is for a better future.
  • Britsy: Fear gives way to freedom

    Paula Jones

    language (, July 1, 2015)
Britsy is the second book in the Looking for Cats series. This book is based on a true story that was experienced by the author who delights in cats with their various personalities. The primary focus in the book is the fear that was engendered in the newborn Britsy and how that hampered him until he actually faced death high in a fir tree. Britsy had learned to find refuge in trees early in his life when he was playing in a fir tree while the author was searching for the original Nez Perce Indian war trail in Idaho. Afterwards when a snarling dog tried to attack him, he found the nearest fir tree, climbed to the top and would not come down. This book, like the first in the Looking for Cats series lends itself well to comprehensive reading lessons using the Core Curriculum State Standards methods. The author is developing teacher/readers guides for each book in the series. The guide books contain close reading worksheets that are accompanied by text and non-text supplementary material along with suggested lessons that focus on the primary areas found throughout the books. The books are designed to fit into a standard 11x8.5 inch binder to enable the teacher/reader to easily organize them with other teaching materials. The beautiful and endearing cat pictures along with the scenic photos of the various places that Britsy lived are a delight for both children and adults. This book is fun to read!
