In those early days of the court the doors of my chambers, in the most secret exam inations, were never closed to Mr. De Laney. Fulness that were of much aid to the court and humanity. When the first editions of the toll OF the sands were issued I was absent from Denver and did not get to see a copy until several days after the publica tion, but I felt that Mr. De Laney would handle the subject embodied in a Western novel in the proper manner and in the proper spirit.
