eBook
Surviving a horrific automobile crash which killed his mother and left him with a broken neck, the five year old boy begins his long recovery living with his grandparents and sister, Sari. There was no nurturing father because his parents had divorced before he was less than one year old. Without warning his father arrived at his grandmother’s home along with a woman who was his father’s new wife. They stayed for the afternoon with a promise to return the next morning to take the boy to the circus. They did arrive the next morning but instead of the circus they snuck him out of Los Angeles for a long train ride to Columbus, Ohio.Buckeye Bound* tells that story and the boy’s survival in a strange environment without his grandparents or sister. His youthful years in Ohio tell the tale of growing up in the time of polio, atomic bomb drills, evening air filled with DDT, early days of television, flying saucer scares, bicycle adventures, nearly drowning, first love and a bout with religious fanaticism. His years in Columbus Ohio included the emotional distance from his step-mother, lack of paternal bonding, and homesickness for his grandparents, sister and his lost life in California. However, with the support of others, caring teachers and new-found friends he was able to recapture the joy of life. This is a true story. (*) A buckeye is a nut common to Ohio resulting in the nickname Buckeye State.
