  • Stand out of our Light: Freedom and Resistance in the Attention Economy

    James Williams

Hardcover (Cambridge University Press, June 7, 2018)
Former Google advertising strategist, now Oxford-trained philosopher James Williams launches a plea to society and to the tech industry to help ensure that the technology we all carry with us every day does not distract us from pursuing our true goals in life. As information becomes ever more plentiful, the resource that is becoming more scarce is our attention. In this 'attention economy', we need to recognise the fundamental impacts of our new information environment on our lives in order to take back control. Drawing on insights ranging from Diogenes to contemporary tech leaders, Williams's thoughtful and impassioned analysis is sure to provoke discussion and debate. Williams is the inaugural winner of the Nine Dots Prize, a new Prize for creative thinking that tackles contemporary social issues. This title is also available as Open Access.
  • The Will to Believe: And Other Essays in Popular Philosophy

    William James

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Nov. 14, 2017)
"The Will to Believe" is a lecture by William James, first published in 1896, which defends, in certain cases, the adoption of a belief without prior evidence of its truth. In particular, James is concerned in this lecture about defending the rationality of religious faith even lacking sufficient evidence of religious truth. James states in his introduction: "I have brought with me tonight [...] an essay in justification of faith, a defense of our right to adopt a believing attitude in religious matters, in spite of the fact that our merely logical intellect may not have been coerced. 'The Will to Believe,' accordingly, is the title of my paper."

A scorpion grabs you with its claws, but its poison comes from where you'd least expect it--the tip of its tail. A fine-looking chestnut bronc receives the name Scorpion when he explodes unexpectedly after several days of unusually good behavior. "That horse," a bronco-busting cowboy says, "is going to be either mighty good or mighty bad."One day Tim, an outlaw on the run, trades his tired horse for Scorpion, and the two forge a relationship of destiny. Though never a well-broke horse, Scorpion acts truly wicked only when Tim makes poor decisions--thus keeping Tim out of trouble. With a little unsolicited help from Scorpion, Tim finds romance and a reason to clear his name.First published in 1936, Scorpion, A Good Bad Horse is the fifteenth title in the Tumbleweed Series of Will James reprints. James illustrated this tale with 45 pen-and-ink drawings.
  • Mystery Dot to Dot Puzzles Below 100 Dots: Connect the Dot Puzzles for both Kids and Grown-Ups

    William James Morizio

Paperback (Independently published, April 21, 2019)
As a child, I loved dot to dot puzzles. I liked the idea of having an image form before my eyes as I progressed. However, most books took part of the mystery element away by filling in a lot of the detail with the dots only making up the outline. With the Mystery Dot to Dot series, we want to bring that mystery back. This particular book contains 34 mystery dot to dot puzzles made up of at most 100 dots. Connecting them will give you images of animals, fruits, vehicles and even popular characters. This is the easiest book in the series.

  • Pragmatism - a new name for some old ways of thinking

    William James

    eBook (, Dec. 20, 2012)
(...)"THE lectures that follow were delivered at the Lowell Institute in Boston in November and December, 1906, and in January, 1907, at Columbia University, in New York. They are printed as delivered, without developments or notes. The pragmatic movement, so-called — I do not like the name, but apparently it is too late to change it — seems to have rather suddenly precipitated itself out of the air. A number of tendencies that have always existed in philosophy have all at once become conscious of themselves collectively, and of their combined mission; and this has occurred in so many countries, and from so many different points of view, that much unconcerted statement has resulted. I have sought to unify the picture as it presents itself to my own eyes, dealing in broad strokes, and avoiding minute controversy. Much futile controversy might have been avoided, I believe, if our critics had been willing to wait until we got our message fairly out.If my lectures interest any reader in the general subject, he will doubtless wish to read farther. I therefore give him a few references. In America, JOHN DEWEY'S 'Studies in Logical Theory'(...)".
