On 23rd April 1984 Ron and Moira Millard and their two daughters Christy and Georgina set off from Southampton in their 36’ Westerly Conway ketch Romoi on an adventure of a lifetime.Their travels were to take them to the Channel Islands, France, Spain, and Portugal into the Mediterranean to Ibiza and back out across the North Atlantic to Brazil and eventually across the South Atlantic to Cape Town, South Africa. The journey took 12 months and during the trip Moira maintained a daily diary which forms the focus of the book.But the book is much, much more than just a record of events as Moira also introduces the reader to the people she had met before, during and after the sailing adventure. Acquaintances, friends and family alike are subject to her probing and inquisitive, but always funny, remembrances and discussions.As anyone who has spent time on a small boat in the ocean food was always a “hot” topic on Romoi and from this Moira has developed and introduces into each chapter recipes that she has collected from family and friends over the years.
