MURDER BY SUICIDE--A New Chameleon Novel
Mr. JOHN M. Michael ROBERTS
(Independently published, Sept. 9, 2017)
This is a teen centered novel, about a 17 yr. old teenager, named Bobby Sunrise; and his 3 friends who solve crimes. This teen uses no magic, he has no super powers, but he is a Master of Disguise; as well as a Martial Arts Master. He adopted an alter ego, to hide his identity, as well as put fear into those that break the law. His friends include, his best friend Peter Cow, who came from China, and moved to America 10 yrs. ago; he started learning Kung Fu at age six; and taught Bobby everything he knows about martial arts. Bobby's girlfriend is Kelly, she is 16, and the third is George, a black youth; the story is set in 1980. Bobby was convinced by Pete to adopt the alter ego, after his sister was brutally attacked, and shot full of heroin. She remembered nothing of the attack, since she was in an almost comatose state for months; so the police could do nothing. Bobby did not accept that, so he and Pete set out to find out who attacked his sister. They succeeded in finding the 3 teens responsible, and beat the crap out of them, before turning them over to Sgt. Bill Thompson, with full confessions. After that Bobby learned of other crimes going on in his neighborhood, so he became the Chameleon. He solved a number of cases, and turned the perps over to Bill each time. There was the councilman running a child porn setup. The subway killers, who used hatchets to terrorize and kill innocent subway riders. The crazed ex army sniper, who Bobby found and brought that case to an end. The biggest case was bringing down Carlos Armand Santiago, the drug dealer from Columbia, who had taken over the drug business after forcing the syndicate out. Bobby found out all about the biggest drug haul in New York history; he informed Bill where and when, and they were all ready. The Chameleon gave most of the credit to Bill Thompson, who was quickly made a police Captain, because of it. Bobby had a particular interest in Bill, he was after all his mom's fiance; and they plan to wed before Thanksgiving. Therefore Bobby as the Chameleon wanted to help Bill out a lot; besides he was the most honest, trustful cop he knew. They had a special relationship, yet one, that Bill himself wasn't quite aware of at first, and only knew his benefactor as, the Chameleon. Only Bobby's three closet friends know he is the Chameleon; so his secret is safe. In this story which has several stories within it, he and his friends deal with bullies, a pawnbroker who takes terrible advantage of his neighbors. Bobby as himself takes on the five gang leaders, who are trying to take over his school and his neighborhood. He challenges all five of them to a fight, all at once, no weapons; if he wins they all get out, if he loses, they can continue;p he does defeat them all that day. Bobby sets a great example of the kind of relationship he should have with his widowed mom, as well as his sister, Trisha. He lost his dad in Vietnam years before, and his mom Diane, works two jobs to support them. Bobby as the Chameleon has to save his mom, Bill, the Mayor and 100's of others attending Bill's ceremony making him the New Police Commissioner; when they are all taken hostage by terrorists. He managed to do this, without anyone being wounded or killed; and soon becomes the city's biggest hero. Because of this, Bill as the new Commissioner calls him in on a case that really has the Mayor, and himself really worried. The city over the last few weeks has been plagued by a large amount of suicides, too many to be normal. Bobby believes they are murders, and as the Chameleon convinces Bill that they are too. Bill makes the Chameleon his new Special Investigator, answering only to him; as such, Bobby has the top ranking job in the department. The problem is finding the guilty murderer, proving he has killed 28 people, and bringing him to justice. Bobby as the Chameleon is determined to do just that, he devises a plan and he brings the killer to his end.
