Rayon the dust bunny and a vacuum abhorred. An appliance fiction novel Everybody’s house has secret inhabitants. Just like yours, this one has dust bunnies. And they’re in trouble. When Rayon the bright blue dust bunny detaches from a young lad’s winter hat, his arrival in the squalor on the bedroom floor doesn’t go unnoticed. He’s been seen and Knickers, another dust bunny made mostly of underwear fibres has been sent to get him out of sight. Knicker’s been sent by the dust bunnies under the bed, the Biddies, to get that very obvious blue dust bunny out of sight before someone feels compelled to get a vacuum cleaner out and inhale all of them up. But Knickers is too late. Rayon’s lurid blueness catches the eye of The Mum. She orders her son to tidy up and the central vacuum system is unleashed from its lair. It sucks up dust bunnies mercilessly, even plucking apart the dust bunny called Pure thread by thread. Just before she’s disentangled completely, Pure’s last words are that Yarn, Yarn can help them all. After swallowing Pure, the ailing vacuum cleaner chokes and whines to a stop and the repairman is summoned. Rayon, Knickers and their companions, Stour and Twill use this opportunity to find Yarn - and to warn the other dust bunny tribes around the house about the impending clean up that will be unleashed after the repairman comes in a couple of days. After making their way to the basement, the laundry drier exhaust carries Rayon, Knickers, Twill, Ouse and now a clutch of simple-minded drier lint called the fuzzballs, up to the attic where they find the densely woven Yarn, the oldest dust bunny in the house. Yarn though tells them to do nothing; entropy is on their side. Dust, Yarn assures them, will prevail. But entropy won’t stop the repairman coming so Rayon, Knickers, Stour, Twill and a clutch of fluffy-brained fuzzballs have only forty eight hours so use the forces of entropy and entanglement in a bid to save Rayon and the dust bunnies from certain inhalation. Rayon the dust bunny and a vacuum abhorred is a novel for trainee adults and fully fledged grown-ups with a taste for a domestic fantasia and like a twist to their stories.
