  • Rabbits For Kids Amazing Animal Books For Young Readers

    Rachel Smith, Mendon Cottage Books

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Sept. 18, 2015)
Rabbits For Kids Amazing Animal Books For Young Readers Table of Contents Introduction What are rabbits? What do rabbits eat? Rabbits and their appearance How do rabbits act? Rabbits as pets European Rabbits Cottontail Rabbits Volcano Rabbits Pygmy Rabbits Amami Rabbits Australian Rabbits Pikas Hares Conclusion Author Bio Introduction Rabbits are adorable animals that many people keep as pets. They exist both in the wild and as pets in great numbers; in fact, rabbits are known for having babies, and lots of them. The reason there are so many rabbits is because they have so many babies, and with short gaps in between. The rabbit has been shown as a trickster in many tales throughout the world; itā€™s also considered a symbol of life and fertility, particularly in the Christian tradition. Easter is a time of year that decorations of rabbits are put up, and the rabbit is celebrated. Along with foxes, they are one of the most popular animals for folk tales. Rabbits have long been prey animals, meaning that they are hunted by bigger predators, such as wolves or foxes. They make up for their fragile build and health by pure numbers; a lot of rabbits may not make it, but because there are so many, it doesnā€™t make a difference. Most rabbits are not endangered. If you want cute and cuddly, rabbits are almost the cutest pet around. They also love being petted, like a lot of domestic (tamed) animals. Rabbits make great pets.
  • Bulldogs - Dog Books for Kids

    k. Bennett, Mendon Cottage Books

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Oct. 22, 2014)
Bulldogs - Dog Books for Kids Table of Contents Introduction Chapter 1 Early History Chapter 2 Fascinating Features & Care Chapter 3 Amazing Yorkie facts Conclusion A Great Companion Author Bio Introduction Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. ~ Roger Caras Bulldogs are heavy set dogs with lots of muscles and a wrinkly face. They have a wide head and shoulders, lots of hanging skin, pointy teeth and droopy eyes. Their coat is shiny and short with varied colors like brindle, red, fawn and white. This breed can weigh between 45- 55 pounds. And a full grown female is about 45 pounds. The name of the dog might make you think isnā€™t too friendly. But the American Kennel Club says the bulldogā€™s behavior should be: ā€œequable and kind, resolute, and courageous (not vicious or aggressive), and demeanor should be pacific and dignified...ā€ So this breed is known as patient, friendly and kind in nature. But these qualities are not by accident. Over the years a lot of work has been done to turn the bulldog into a friendlier pet. Today, it is usually well behaved and has a loving nature. It gets along well with other pets and other dogs. It can also become so attached to its owner that it wonā€™t move without them. And when it comes to affection the bulldog is hard to beat. They would prefer to snuggle next to you than chase a ball around the yard. This is one reason why they are called: Couch potatoes! Bulldogs are known to drool and slobber all over you. They snore when they sleep, they can snort often and they grunt even more. And when they walk, they shuffle from place to place. Add a little bit of gas (often smelly) into the mix, and you have quite an interesting pet in your family home! They also have a hard time with commands. To put it simply: They are stubborn as a bullā€¦dog! But donā€™t worry. There is no doubt their clownish behavior, goofy antics, crazy faces and courageous nature will bring a smile to your face, and a warm feeling to your heart. For these reasons and more, Bulldogs are recommended as a loving companion, well deserving of the titleā€¦ manā€™s best friend!
  • Beagles - Dog Books for Kids

    K. Bennett, Mendon Cottage Books

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Oct. 22, 2014)
Beagles - Dog Books for Kids Table of Contents Introduction Chapter 1 Early History Chapter 2 Fascinating Features & Care Chapter 3 Amazing Beagle facts Conclusion A Family's best friend Author Bio Introduction ā€œNo matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich.ā€ -Louis Sabin Beagles are beautiful small sized dogs and a member of the hound group. This group of dogs looks similar to the Foxhound, but the design is a bit different. For example, you will note, Beagles have shorter legs and softer ears. And they have a great sense of smell, which makes them efficient in scenting out their target. The word used to describe their hunting skills is ā€œrelentless,ā€ which means they donā€™t give up easily! And this skill has served them well over the years. Beagles were used mainly for tracking purposes. They would track down animals like deer, rabbits, and other small sized game. And over the years this ability has expanded into other areas. For example, today Beagles are used to detect forbidden agricultural products and other foods, which are not allowed in various countries around the world. I can personally attest to this fact. When I traveled from London to New Jersey a few years ago, I forgot I had a banana in my bag. A cute little beagle let everyone know, including the officer, that I had forbidden fruit. And she sniffed out my sandwich too! The officers were none too pleased with me, but I couldn't be upset with such a beautiful little tattletale! For more than 2,500 years Beagle type dogs have existed, but in the 1800ā€™s the modern breed we know was born. And now this beautiful dog has become one of the top ten dog breeds in the United States. However, this does not mean Beagles have forgotten their origins! When it comes to training, Beagles are not the easiest breed to train. Usually, they are so busy following some interesting scent that your commands are left in the dust. So, if you decide to have a Beagle as a pet, this part of their personality is something to think about. Beagles can also be wary of strangers. They are protective of their family and can be territorial. So, when strangers come around, donā€™t expect your Beagle to say hello! It will take a little time for your pet to warm up before they invite a stranger into the home. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule as with all dog breeds, but this is the standard behavior of a Beagle. Ultimately Beagles are loyal and faithful companions. Their loving nature and fun personality will endear them to the whole family, but especially children. Full of energy and excitement, Beagles are ready to have fun each and every day! This fun loving spirit makes them an ideal pet for a home with little ones. Although enigmatic on some occasions, Beagles are certainly recommended as a great household pet. Their highly enthusiastic spirit and intelligence are not only deserving of the title ā€œmanā€™s best friendā€ but alsoā€¦ ā€œBest family friend!ā€
  • Yorkshire Terriers - Dog Books for Kids

    K. Bennett, Mendon Cottage Books

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Oct. 22, 2014)
Yorkshire Terriers - Dog Books for Kids Table of Contents Introduction Chapter 1 Early History Chapter 2 Fascinating Features & Care Chapter 3 Amazing Yorkie facts Conclusion A Great Companion Author Bio Introduction My little dog ā€” a heartbeat at my feet. ~Edith Wharton Yorkshire terriers are beautiful little dogs weighing approximately 7 pounds. They are popular pets and great companions with a ā€œbigā€ personality, despite their size. They are also vivacious, intelligent, feisty and loving. Although stubborn from time to time, with the right training Yorkieā€™s can be the most adorable pet! Yorkshire Terriers have an interesting history. This particular breed originated from Northern England, but donā€™t let its size fool you. This little dog packs lots and lots of love. A Terrierā€™s coat is quite beautiful and silky in shades of black, gray or even tan. When Terriers started out they were used catch rats, but during the Victorian era they became show dogs and beautiful pets. Then after some years passed, people forgot about this small companionā€¦ but not for long. When world world II started, something amazing happened. Can you guess what it was? Yorkie Doodle Dandy appearedā€¦ and because of her, everyone fell in love with the terrier all over again. Do you know who Yorkie doodle dandy was? She was a beautiful 4 pound terrier that served during the world war. She was found by an American soldier and for quite some time followed him on combat missions in the pacific, traversed the New Guinea jungle and even an Okinawa typhoon! Her owner, Wynne called her ā€œAn angel from a foxhole.ā€ This real life story tells you a little about a terrierā€™s personality: Their protective nature. This means Yorkieā€™s are not too fond of strangers (or other animals) and they can get a bit aggressive. And if they should see a squirrel, the rest is history as they say. Yorkieā€™s have a tendency to feed off your emotions. So if you are protective of them and their environment, they will transfer those emotions to their personality and turn into a train wreck! This means they will see danger at every turn, and bark their little life away. However, the good qualities of Terriers far outweigh the bad ones. For one thing, they love spending time with you. Being underfoot and basking in your warmth and affection is the best gift for a Terrier. So take this aspect of their personality into consideration. Ultimately, Yorkieā€™s are beautiful and loyal pets with a high degree of intelligence. It may take some time to mold them to family life, but once their love and respect is earned, you will not find a more lovable and charming pet!
