Mad Bats and Fat Rats: Counting 1 to 10
Melissa Bolton
eBook
Mad Bats and Fat Rats is a visually stimulating book that draws in the reader with bright pictures, a fun rhyme, and picture cues to assist with new vocabulary. The book was written to assist children with counting, word reading, and phonemic awareness. This is Ms. Bolton's first book of many; she feels there is a need for books that assist children with autism but also beginning readers, children with language deficits/delay, students with reading delays, and visual learners. Each of Ms. Bolton's books has a picture/word vocabulary review (pictures associated with words) in the beginning pages of the story, and picture cues by associated words throughout the story. Ms. Bolton is a special education teacher who has been teaching children with autism for over 12 years. She started writing and illustrating books to help her students with language and reading deficits. The students enjoyed the stories and were excited to identify words using the picture cues. She also has editable books on teacherspayteachers.com; these books incorporate the child into the story. The purchaser can cut and paste the child's or children's pictures and name into the story. Children love to read when they are the main character. "Reading is a skill that must be practiced and drilled." Sight words and word families (at, et, ot, etc), beginning reading skills, are needing to be learned earlier and earlier. From the author: Read with an excited, fun voice and reading with be a breeze for you and me! Take the time to read every day. Reading/Language can not be learned or enjoyed without wonderful, excited family members demonstrating and modeling the skills. Talk to your child, read to your child, and have them read and talk to you. Even children with a disability like autism can make exciting gains with early interventions (first 5 years), but they learn by models, visuals, therapy and lots and lots of practice. I hope this book and my other books (coming soon) will help on the road to reading. Enjoy.
