  • Solid Geometry and Conic Sections: With Appendices on Transversals, and Harmonic Division, for the Use of Schools

    J. M. Wilson

Paperback (Forgotten Books, July 5, 2017)
Excerpt from Solid Geometry and Conic Sections: With Appendices on Transversals, and Harmonic Division, for the Use of SchoolsThis work is an endeavour to introduce into schools some portions of Solid Geometry which are now very little read in England. The first twenty-one Propositions of Euclid's Eleventh Book are usually all the Solid Geometry that a boy reads till he meets with the subject again in the course of his analytical studies. And this is a matter of regret, because this part Of Geometry is specially valuable and attractive. In it the attention Of the student is strongly called to the subject matter of the reasoning; the geometrical imagination is exercised; the methods employed in it are more ingenious than those in Plane Geometry, and have greater difficulties to meet; and the applications Of it in practice are more varied.I have added short Appendices on Transversals, and on Harmonic Division, which will, I hope, be found useful.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Biography of Mary Hartwell Catherwood

    M. L. Wilson

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Nov. 3, 2017)
About the Book Our offering includes memoirs, or collections of memories that individuals have written about moments or events, both public or private, that took place in their lives. While the assertions made in these works are generally taken to be factual, the biases or perspectives of the authors are often present. Historically, memoirs have been defined as a subcategory of biography or autobiography, however the genre is differentiated in form, since it presents a narrower focus. While a biography or autobiography tells the story "of a life", a memoir generally tells the story "from a life", tending to emphasize touchstone events and turning points in the author's life experience. The authors are referred to as memoirists or memorialists. Also in this Book Economic history involves the study of economies or economic phenomena rooted in the past. Economic history analysis is undertaken using a number of historical methods, statistical methods and require the application of economic theory to historical situations and institutions. Topics include financial and business history, which overlap with areas of social history such as demography and labor history. Many early books on economic history described businesses, economies or industries, with relatively less emphasis on econometrics or theoretical analyses. And in this Book Titles dealing with military veterans are about people who have served or are serving in the armed forces. Those that have had direct exposure to military conflict may also be termed war veterans, even though not all military conflicts, or areas in which armed combat takes place, are necessarily called wars.About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades.
