The Palace In The Garden - A Delightful Children's StoryMarie Louisa Molesworth was a popular children book writer who managed to pass unto the child population dozens of exciting stories. One of her best is probably The Palace in the Garden - a story about three orphans and their adventure in a hidden palace. The story starts with the three orphans Gussie, Gerald and Tib in their grandfather's London house. Everything there is ugly and boring and the children don't have much else to do other than bothering the not-so-cheerful grandfather. This goes on until the grandfather summons them to his oaken study, where he informs the three little orphans that they are about to get sent to his estate in the woods. They have heard of Rosebud from their father's fairytale book, but they didn't know that he actually has an estate there. They also find his name on a page of the fairytale, with another name, Regina, being crossed out. Coincidentally, Tib's real name is Mercedes Regina. And so the suspense builds on.And so the three little heroes are sent to the Garden in the Woods - a household in a place called Rosebuds. Once there they discover that there are many great places to play in, the back garden, the cheerful toys in the home and so on. Everything is normal until the boys discover a secret door and a key which leads to other secrets. These doors lead to a conservatory, then to a secret house and a secret room where a painting portraying a woman who looks a lot like Tib.While many adults may guess the plot halfway through the story, they, as well as their children, will certainly love the adorable orphans and their inquisitive nature. The Palace in the Garden is an exciting children's story fit for adults as well.
