Matt was living an average 8th grade life at Krueger Middle School in the suburbs of San Antonio. Life was good. Matt was going to be the lead in the 8th grade play; had friends; everything was normal and sane. Then it happened. Three months before school was out, his parents moved him to rural East Texas. Ripped from his happy suburban home, landing in the sticks, he discovers that 8th grade at Pleasant Middle School was as foreign to him as Mars. Now Matt is trying to avoid being beat up; has no friends; everything is abnormal and crazy. So many things are now wrong in his life: he now lives in the boondocks; he shares a room with a ghost; the ghost is Tiny’s ornery grandfather (Tiny is upset by this)-Tiny is determined to have Matt help her grandfather get to Heaven; the Angel of Death is stalking Matt; Neda Ann Schmidt is in love with him-Matt doesn’t want Neda Ann Schmidt to be in love with him; plus, there are snakes all over this place; and it goes down from here.
