  • Wood's Book of Wonders: 3rd Graders Can Write!

    Margaret Lawing

Paperback (Chalfant Eckert Publishing, May 8, 2016)
This book is a pilot project between Wood Elementary School at Fort Leonard Wood Army Base, Missouri and Chalfant Eckert Publishing. It was born of the desire of one writing teacher, Mrs. Margaret Lawing, who wanted her third grade class of English and Language Arts students to discover a love of writing. Most third grade students need a reason to write (except for passing notes, of course!) and Mrs. Lawing discovered a way to gain their attention and motivate them to become published authors. This book is the result of those efforts. Bear in mind as you read that we intentionally left some misspellings, grammar errors, and punctuation mistakes to capture the essence of third grade thought processes and skill levels. It is our hope that some of these children will see themselves as successful writers and go on to author many books. Forty or fifty years from now when these kids are helping their grandchildren do English homework, perhaps they will pull out this book and pass on the joy of writing to future generations. If either happens, then this pilot project will have accomplished Mrs. Lawing’s goals.
