The author, Jimmy C. (Shorty) Mosley, was born in Gilbertown, Alabama. His family moved to Mississippi when the author was about five years old, and he has resided there since. He and his wife Beverly have six children, thirteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. The author enjoys writing books and poetry. They share a small farm with donkeys, a horse, and dogs and cats.
