  • The five jars

    M R. 1862-1936 James

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

  • Ghost Stories of an Antiquary

    M. R. JAMES (1862 - 1936)

    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, Jan. 1, 2017)
A British traveler in a little, countryside village in the South of France explores a historical document with a peculiar diagram at the end of the book. A minor who is left alone is taken to the house of his aged cousin, a surreptitious man who is fixated with endless life. A photo that narrates tales and varies conferring to who perceives it. These and other delectable, cold creep inducing stories form Ghost Stories of an Antiquary by Montague R James. An expert of such genre, MR James was a scholar and head of King's College, Cambridge and thereafter at Eton. His spooky narratives are exemplary in their refinement and the pure terror they offer after a moment you have completed reading the tales. He also provided a modern insight to the hackneyed eerie tales of the Victorian Gothic classification and applied a much more genuine and plausible strategies and backgrounds. Many of his tales are from materials that he himself was fond of such as antedated tomes and documents, antique homes and ancient times. Montague Rhodes James OM FBA, who wrote using the appellation M. R. James, was a British writer, medievalist academic and director of King's College, Cambridge, and of Eton College. Although James's compositions as a medievalist remains to be greatly recognized, he is mostly commemorated for his spooky tales, which are considered as one of the finest in the category. James reconstrued the horrific genre for the modern world by leaving some of the strict Gothic cants of his antecedents and made use of a much truthful novelty backdrops. Yet, his heroes and storylines are somewhat outlined with his particular archaic fascinations. Concurringly, he is acknowledged as the creator of the "antiquarian ghost story". James is known well for his phantom tales, but his writing as a medievalist erudite was phenomenal and continues to be widely appreciated in academic affiliations.
