Written by a historian, the Prologue trilogy of novels intertwines historical and practical homesteading skills with the tale of a young girl coming of age in a world in which modern technology has failed. BOOK 1: SELF-RELIANCE When a devastating illness sweeps the country, fourteen-year old Hannah Kirtland suddenly finds herself alone and responsible for the daily survival of several younger children. Not knowing when or if her parents will ever return, Hannah must draw on her Christian faith, her resourcefulness, and the traditional skills learned from friends and relatives as she struggles to adapt to the realities of the Great Collapse. BOOK 2: OUR NEW OLD-FASHIONED LIFE After the first year of hardships after the Great Collapse, Hannah and her family discover that their problems are far from over. New philosophies, ways of survival, and disagreements arise among the members of the Reliance Community as they attempt to forge a new society and hold on to the remains of civilized life. BOOK 3: ABSOLUTE POWERIn the third year after the Collapse, the Reliance Community is still threatened by dangers from without and troubles within. Practical problems arise and often set the community members at odds. Worse, Hannah comes face to face not only with the violent lawlessness outside of the community, but the threat of local despotism. Yet in spite of it all, the members of Reliance Community cling to the hope that life, and love, will continue. About the Author- Growing up on a family farm, Lynette Crowe very early developed a love for history and historical skills. As a former archivist, material-culture historian, museum curator, and now a small farm-owner, she has not only studied but actually done many of the historical and homesteading skills presented in this trilogy. Her hope is that through this book, readers will learn potentially valuable skills as well as be strengthened in their faith to confront whatever challenges may await. Lynette, her husband, and their daughter live with a menagerie of animals on a small heritage farm in East Texas.
