THE DEMON’S SECRET Cara Louise Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Will drags his friends, Misha and Matti, into a heap of trouble at ancient Harwood Hall. He is determined to explore and refuses to allow anything or anyone to stop him, taking considerable advantage of his friends along the way. In the cellars they find a statue of the mythical demon, Asmodeus, containing a hidden letter which tells of a dreadful secret connected to the Hall. Key parts of the letter have disintegrated and the children are drawn into a quest to solve the mystery. They encounter a sinister group who have passed the secret down through the centuries, using it to gain power at the expense of others. The children follow a series of codes hidden within paintings, fishponds, murals, tombstones, statues and a poem by Chaucer. The closer they get to the truth, the deeper they become entangled in the affairs of the mysterious figures in black, who are linked to key positions in the town. Not knowing who they can trust, the children unravel the demon’s secret, to discover the town of Harwood faced with catastrophe.
