Excerpt from Under One Standard or the Touch That Makes Us Kin a Story of the Time of the Maori WarFor the first time in their short married life Mary Godwin felt inclined to question her hus band's judgment, for the matter he was dismiss ing in such summary fashion was none other than the uprooting of their home in the old country and sailing over unknown seas to establish another in New Zealand. Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
  • Under one standard: or, The touch that makes us kin: a story of the time of the Maori War

    H. Louisa Bedford

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Oct. 15, 2015)
About the Book Texts about the History of Australia cover the history of the area and people of the Commonwealth of Australia, its indigenous and later colonial societies. The first European explorers were the Dutch, but it was the British who led colonisation in 1788 with the First Fleet. Gold rushes and agricultural development brought prosperity, with the six autonomous British colonies uniting in a federal Australian state in 1901. Seven hundred years ago the Polynesians settled in New Zealand, who became the Maori people. It was first visited by a Dutch explorer, Abel Tasman in 1642. British missionaries settled in the late 18th century and the Treaty of Waitangi was concluded with Maori chiefs in 1840, although there were a series of subsequent Maori Wars (1845 to 1872). At Gallipoli in Turkey and on the Western Front, the Australian and New Zealand forces made a disproportionate contribution to the British Empire forces that fought in World War 1About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades. While these books may have occasional imperfections, we consider that only hand checking of every page ensures readable content without poor picture quality, blurred or missing text etc. That's why we: republish only hand checked books; that are high quality; enabling readers to see classic books in original formats; that are unlikely to have missing or blurred pages. You can search "Leopold Classic Library" in categories of your interest to find other books in our extensive collection. Happy reading!
