When Violet goes camping with her friends, Arthur decides to brave the woods alone. But there's nothing like swooping bats and hissing snakes to make even the most courageous chimp run for cover. School Library Journal named Arthur's Camp-Out, "One of Hoban's best Arthur tales." "The good humor of Hoban's naturally cadenced dialogue and realistic detail mellows the message, while the childlike characters are as likable in her full-color mixed media art as in the text."--K.

  • Arthur's Honey Bear

    Lillian Hoban

Library Binding (Paw Prints 2008-04-25, April 25, 2008)
Arthur of Oriza and sister Violet, with the day of spring cleaning, I was organizing toys. Arthur suggests selling unnecessary toys for sale at "Tag Sale". For Violet who wants to keep all his toys, he seems to be an older brother, "I was also when I was small" What Arthur said, let out outdoors broken hula hoops and horse figurines and sandbox sets. I will put a price on each, but there was something that I had a single thought. It was a bear's stuffed animal that my father bought when Arthur became chickenpox. That stuffed animal, I decided to keep it behind the curious stuffed to make it unnoticeable. If you make a sale sign and wait, your friend Norman will come, but what you broke will not sell after all. But next time Wilma finds a bear's stuffed animal and says it wants it .... Thoughtful things do not sell easily even if they try to sell. The Arthur's feelings are well transmitted. Arthur's clever suggestion that comes out at the end of the book is also good! It is a series that attracted a heartwarming picture and a story in a series that made Osaru Arthur the hero.

  • Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas

    Russell Hoban, Lillian Hoban

eBook (Doubleday Books for Young Readers, Oct. 24, 2017)
The inspiration for the beloved Jim Henson film is back in print after over 40 years! In 1977, when Jim Henson debuted the now-classic film Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, few knew it was based on a story written and illustrated by Russell and Lillian Hoban, creators of Bread and Jam for Frances and other treasured children's books. With an enduring score by the great Paul Williams, the movie remains a holiday tradition in homes across America. Now the book that started it all is back in print, in a beautiful gift edition that will thrill Muppets fans young and old. Inspired by the classic tale "The Gift of the Magi," the story begins in a poor country cottage, as Emmet Otter dreams of buying Ma a piano for Christmas, while Ma dreams of buying Emmet a guitar. When a village talent contest is announced, both imagine their dreams coming true. But what they don't imagine finding is their real reward - the power of love, family, and hope in hard times. It is a story that reaches into a reader's heart and reminds us all that fortune favors the brave.
