    Laughing Elephant

Paperback (Laughing Elephant, Sept. 1, 2018)

  • By The Sea

    Laughing Elephant Publishing

Paperback (Laughing Elephant, March 5, 2013)
Beaches hold a powerful appeal for children. It is for them a place where they are free to play, build, and discover. The place where land and sea meet enfolds them, and there they seem to blossom in a timeless paradise. The combination of dramatic natural beauty and childhood joy is one that holds great appeal to children’s book illustrators, resulting in a wealth of images of children enjoying the pleasures of sand and sea. We have assembled from our library of vintage children’s books the images for this simple shaped book, and paired them with a text, which celebrates – from the point of view of a child – the many appeals of life on the beach. Artists include: Pelagie Doane, Henriette Willebeek Le Mair, Millicent Sowerby, Susan Beatrice Pearse and Jessie Willcox Smith.

  • The Truth about Snow People

    Laughing Elephant Publishing

Hardcover (Laughing Elephant, Sept. 1, 2005)
The Truth About Easter Rabbits, which we published in 2005, was so attractive and so popular that we follow it up with this survey of snow men, snow women, snow children and snow animals. Like the Easter Rabbit book it uses a great variety of illustrative sources to provide a comprehensive view of how snow people are created, how they vary in personality and appearance, their recreational preferences, their family lives, and what happens to them after they melt. Most of us love snow people already, but after looking at this book one will enjoy them in a more profound way. Sources drawn upon for this project include: old postcards, Victorian scraps, children's readers, antique picture books, and magazine covers and illustrations.
