  • Charles Kingsley - The Water-Babies

    Charles Kingsley

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Nov. 7, 2016)
The Water-Babies, A Fairy Tale for a Land Baby is a children's novel by the Reverend Charles Kingsley. Written in 1862-1863 as a serial for Macmillan's Magazine, it was first published in its entirety in 1863. The book was extremely popular during its day, and was a mainstay of children's literature through the 1920s. The protagonist is Tom, a young chimney sweep, who falls into a river after encountering an upper-class girl named Ellie and being chased out of her house. There he dies and is transformed into a "water baby", as he is told by a caddis fly - an insect that sheds its skin - and begins his moral education. The story is thematically concerned with Christian redemption, though Kingsley also uses the book to argue that England treats its poor badly, and to question child labour, among other themes.

    Charles Kingsley

    language (ThinkWriteLiveLLC, Oct. 11, 2017)
In the distant dystopian future, the world has become a smaller place. The population has shrunk to 500,000, and everyone has been forced to live in one of six zones. Everyone is provided with the essentials and no one is given more than anyone else. “Conformity will be the hallmark of our era,” is the mantra of the masses. Phrases and mantras similar, have replaced the pledge of allegiance and any other pledges of sovereignty. Religion has been outlawed. People are kept in a controlled and submissive state through designer drugs, groupthink, and propaganda. They are monitored and watched 24 hours a day. Everything and everyone is controlled by a group of entities that have ascended into the singularity. They are the God’s of this New World. A world where people live out their fantasies through a virtual reality platform called – Eden. Until, they are one day called upon to merge their consciousness with the collective, and become part of the singularity themselves. Most are anxiously waiting for this day. The day when they pass the plane of mortality and enter into a new realm of everlasting existence. But, there are others like – Dominik Bozer – who have started to question this existence. And, when he meets a man named Robert, who tells him stories that remind him of his childhood; he sets out on a quest to find the origins of this New World and the God’s that watch over it. As he digs deeper into in his past, he soon realizes not all is what it seems, and the “So called God’s”, as he calls them, are not so benevolent. This is the first volume in what will be a six (6) part series.
